FLAT v's HAMBURGER NAVIGATION (ANDROID)
ONLINE TESTING COMPLETED NOVEMBER 2015
There's been a growing trend away from Single Main Screen + Drawer Menu towards Persistent Flat Navigation
Although it seems like the coolest thing and the latest trend all the big players (Facebook, YouTube, Trulia, Whatsapp, Periscope, Twitter etc) have all made the switch, we wanted to validate that it's not just another trend and is actually the best solution for us. Because all of those apps also all followed the trend towards Hamburger menu to begin with.
The biggest drawback the hamburger menu is accused of that it means most your other key sections are hidden from the user.
I'd also like to argue that findings are potentially universally important to all our mobile platforms as currently Mobile Site, iPhone as well as Android ALL use the Single Main Screen + Drawer pattern!
